The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is a meteorological software package used for decoding, displaying, and analyzing data. In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of working with the desktop client, AWIPS CAVE, through demonstrations, tutorials, activities, assessments, and challenges. Sections should be completed in sequence but may be completed over multiple sessions.

The python-awips package provides a data access framework for requesting meteorological and geographic datasets from a EDEX server. Python-AWIPS expands the visualization and analysis options of AWIPS CAVE by bringing resources into Python, enabling the use of popular scientific tools such as SciPy, MetPy, and Cartopy. This course will introduce you to the basic concepts of working with this package to access, manipulate, and plot resources.
